The United States has announced a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Olalekan Abimbola Olawusi, a Nigerian residing in Rhode Island.
He is facing trial for allegedly murdering his three-month-old son.
Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Don Freeman stated that Olawusi has been charged with first-degree murder and causing serious bodily injury to a child, and is now one of the 15 Most Wanted fugitives on the U.S. Marshals Service list.
“A man wanted in Rhode Island on charges of murder, inflicting serious bodily injury to a child and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution has been added to the U.S. Marshals Service 15 Most Wanted fugitives list with an up to $25,000 reward being offered for information leading to his arrest”, the statement said.
The incident occurred on April 3, 2017, when police and firefighters found the severely injured child and rescued him.
Medical examinations revealed that the child had sustained injuries in 18 different parts of his body. Olawusi was arrested and arraigned on April 20, 2017, but disappeared after being released the same day while awaiting trial.
