Armed gang attacks around Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince, have displaced over 10,000 people in the past week, reports the U.N. Migration Agency.
As gangs expand beyond the city, more than 700,000 Haitians have been internally displaced, double the amount six months ago.
Widespread violence and food shortages, including famine-level hunger, are rampant as gangs seize farmland and block key routes.
Despite the U.N.’s authorizing a foreign aid mission, limited resources and international disagreements have hindered its impact, contributing to Haiti’s worsening humanitarian crisis.
