The UK’s Minister of State for Policing, Fire and Crime Prevention, Dame Diana Johnson, experienced a theft during a policing conference, as her purse was stolen, according to a Thursday report by the BBC.
The incident took place while the minister was delivering a speech at the Police Superintendents’ Association conference on Tuesday, addressing issues such as antisocial behavior, theft, and shoplifting.
The conference was held at Chesford Grange Hotel in Kenilworth, Warwickshire.
The Home Office confirmed the theft, and Warwickshire Police have launched an investigation. A 56-year-old man from Coventry was arrested on suspicion of burglary but has been released on bail as investigations continue.
A police spokesperson confirmed the theft occurred between 11:00 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. and reassured that there were no security risks related to the incident.
