Two killed in Israel’s West Bank operation

The Palestinian health ministry reported on Friday that an Israeli drone strike on a vehicle near the West Bank town of Qabatiya resulted in two fatalities.

This marks the fourth day of a significant Israeli operation in Jenin, launched after the ceasefire in Gaza.

According to the Israeli military, the airstrike targeted a vehicle carrying what they described as a terrorist cell, although no further details were provided. The military’s operation in Jenin aims to dismantle Palestinian militant groups allegedly supported by Iran, initiated two days post-ceasefire with Hamas in Gaza.

Palestinian health officials stated that at least 12 Palestinians have died in the operation, including two members of Hamas’s armed wing. The Israeli military also reported the arrest of 20 suspects and the seizure of weapons.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights spokesperson, Thameen Al-Kheetan, expressed grave concerns about the use of unlawful lethal force, highlighting serious issues of unnecessary or disproportionate force during the Jenin operation.

As fighting in Gaza pauses for the six-week ceasefire’s first phase, Israeli officials describe the operation in Jenin as part of a broader conflict against Iranian-backed groups in the West Bank, southern Lebanon, and Yemen.
