Two individuals discovered fatally shot in a dormitory at a university in Colorado were named on Sunday as inquiries persisted to apprehend a probable perpetrator most likely acquainted with the victims, according to authorities.
The authorities confirmed Samuel Knopp, aged 24, hailing from Parker, situated about 60 miles north of the campus, as a student at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, where he was discovered deceased on Friday.
Celie Rain Montgomery from Pueblo, approximately 45 miles south of the campus, was also found deceased in the Crestone House residence, as announced by the Colorado Springs police.
The police department noted that she was not enrolled as a student at the university.
While the exact cause and manner of death are yet to be determined, police classified the deaths as a homicide case involving a perpetrator who possibly had a relationship with the victims.
“Investigative efforts so far continue to indicate this is an isolated incident between parties that were known to one another,” the police department stated.
The tragic incident came to light at 5:59 a.m. on Friday when campus law enforcement received a report of gunfire at a dormitory, leading to the discovery of the deceased individuals in a dorm room at around 6:05 a.m., according to a prior statement from the police department.
