Two Aid Workers killed in DRC

Two employees of the Britain-based aid agency Tearfund were killed in an attack on their convoy in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

The agency made the announcement on Monday.

They were traveling by road from the town of Lubero to Butembo city in the conflict-torn North Kivu province when they were attacked upon arrival on Sunday.

Tearfund did not provide further details about the incident.

North Kivu has been troubled by ongoing violence, with various armed groups competing for control and resources in the mineral-rich region. This escalating insurgency over more than two years has worsened an already severe humanitarian crisis, displacing over 2.7 million people.

Local administrator Alain Kiwewa confirmed an attack on a convoy, noting that five vehicles were burned, but did not specify which group was responsible.
