Donald Trump has been sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. The inauguration ceremony took place indoors at the Capitol Rotunda due to extremely cold weather.
Trump took the oath of office administered by Chief Justice John Roberts, marking his return to the presidency.
In his inaugural address, Trump declared that “the golden age of America begins right now,” emphasizing themes of unity, strength, and fairness.
He also outlined his plans for his second term, which include signing a series of executive orders aimed at reshaping immigration policies, and increasing U.S. energy production.
Trump seized to moment to announce that his administration is recognizing only two genders.
“As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States Government that there are only two genders: male and female,” he said.
This move is part of a series of executive orders aimed at rolling back protections for transgender individuals and ending diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs within the federal government.
The order will define gender based on biological sex, determined by whether individuals are born with eggs or sperm. This change will impact federal documents, including passports, and will segregate federal prisons and shelters by sex as defined by the order.
Additionally, the order will block federal funding for gender transition services and prevent agencies from promoting the concept of gender identity.
