President-elect Donald Trump has been named Time magazine’s Person of the Year for 2024, marking the second time he has received this honor.
Trump was previously named Person of the Year in 2016 following his first presidential election victory.
Time’s Editor-in-Chief, Sam Jacobs, stated, “For marshaling a comeback of historic proportions, for driving a once-in-a-generation political realignment, for reshaping the American presidency and altering America’s role in the world, Donald Trump is TIME’s 2024 Person of the Year.”
Trump’s political resurgence has been described as unparalleled in American history. Despite facing multiple criminal investigations and an assassination attempt in July, Trump managed to clear the Republican field and win the general election, becoming the first Republican to win the popular vote in 20 years. His victory has realigned American politics, remaking the GOP and leaving Democrats to reckon with their strategies.
Trump is set to ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange to commemorate the honor, alongside several of his family members.
