UK Prime Minister and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer met with former U.S. President Donald Trump in New York on Thursday, ahead of the U.S. presidential election in November.

The meeting took place at Trump Tower during Starmer’s visit to the United Nations General Assembly.

Despite past criticisms from Labour’s foreign secretary, David Lammy, who once called Trump a “racist KKK and Nazi sympathiser,” Lammy also attended the talks.

Trump praised Starmer, calling him “very nice” and acknowledging his political success. In response, Starmer emphasized the importance of maintaining the UK’s strong relationship with the U.S. regardless of who holds office, saying, “We will work with whoever is president.”

Starmer expressed optimism about building personal relations with international counterparts and stressed the enduring strength of the US-UK alliance, especially on issues like Ukraine and the Middle East.
