Tropical Storm Trami hits Philippines

Rescue efforts are underway in The Philippines as Tropical Storm Trami leaves devastating floods, claiming at least 40 lives and displacing thousands.

In the Bicol region, landslides have blocked access to some areas, where President Ferdinand Marcos noted previously stable ground has become dangerously saturated.

While Trami has moved over the South China Sea, its aftermath continues to impact communities, particularly in Batangas and Luzon, where storm surge warnings and evacuation orders persist. In some towns, floodwaters nearly submerged homes, leaving residents stranded and appealing for help on social media.

Record rainfall levels—over 390 mm in Batangas—forced widespread evacuations, including nearly 200,000 people from vulnerable areas.

As storms increasingly intensify due to climate change, the Philippines, which faces around 20 major storms yearly, is experiencing greater threats from severe flooding and rapid storm escalation, heightening risks to lives and livelihoods.
