President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico’s first female President on her historic victory at the polls.
This was contained in a statement on Wednesday by Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s spokesperson.
He hailed the victory as a victory for women and has defied notion that women can’t be in politics.
“Sheinabaum’s election had sent a reverberating message across the world that women must not only be participants but principal architects in shaping and implementing decisions affecting the lives of many.”
“On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, the President congratulates the people of Mexico and calls for the strengthening of bilateral ties between both nations across areas of mutual interest,” the statement added.
The President National Electoral Institute disclosed Sheinbaum had between 58.3% and 60.7% of the vote.
When sworn-in for her six-year term Oct. 1, Sheinbaum will be the first person from a Jewish background to lead the overwhelmingly Catholic country.
