The Obamas endorse Harris’s candidacy

Kamala Harris, US VP

US Vice President Kamala Harris has earned the endorsement of Barack and Michelle Obama, with the former president and first lady stating in a new video: “She’ll make an excellent President of the United States.”

Harris has also mocked Donald Trump after the Republican presidential nominee backed out of a planned TV debate with her, asking on social media: “What happened to any time, any place?”

Trump had previously used that phrase to challenge Joe Biden but now seems hesitant to face Harris. Biden stepped down from the Democratic Party ticket on Sunday, making way for his deputy, who is now the presumptive nominee for the White House.

On Thursday, Harris accused Trump of “backpedaling” on his promise to participate in a debate tentatively scheduled for September 10 to be aired on ABC.

Trump’s campaign team later confirmed that he wouldn’t debate her, at least not for now, blaming Democratic instability for the reversal.

Meanwhile, a new poll from The New York Times and Siena College shows Harris just one percentage point behind Trump, a close in the six-point gap between Biden and Trump.
