Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has been re-elected with 94.65 percent of the vote, according to the country’s electoral authority, ANIE.

Over 5.3 million people cast their vote for Tebboune, securing his second five-year term.

His competitors, moderate Islamist Abdelaali Hassani and socialist Youcef Aouchiche, received 3.17 percent and 2.16 percent of the vote, respectively.

Tebboune’s focus during the election was on increasing voter turnout, as the previous election in 2019 saw over 60 percent abstention following mass protests.

However, ANIE did not disclose the total voter turnout in this recent election.
