South Korea’s National Assembly has voted to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol over his attempt to impose martial law.
Out of 300 lawmakers, 204 voted in favor of impeachment, while 85 voted against it.
President Yoon is now suspended from office while the Constitutional Court deliberates on whether to uphold his removal. Prime Minister Han Duck-soo will serve as the interim president during this period.
If the court backs his removal, Yoon would become the second president in South Korean history to be successfully impeached.
