South Korea places ban on presidential travels

President Yoon Suk Yeol of South Korea

South Korea has imposed a travel ban on President Yoon Suk-yeol and several top officials amid a deepening leadership crisis.

This decision follows Yoon’s failed attempt to impose martial law, which has led to growing calls for his resignation.

The travel ban was confirmed by the Ministry of Justice, with officials stating that the president and other key figures are being investigated for insurrection. The ban includes former defense and interior ministers, as well as other high-ranking officials involved in the martial law declaration.

President Yoon’s People Power Party (PPP) staged a walkout before a vote to impeach him, leading to accusations of being “accomplices to insurrection.”

The opposition is now preparing for a second impeachment vote.
