Saudi Arabia has implemented significant changes to its visa policy, restricting nationals from 14 countries from applying for new short-term visas.
This decision comes as part of efforts to regulate travel ahead of the upcoming Hajj season.
Key Details:
- Affected Visa Categories: The restrictions apply to business visas (single and multi-entry), tourist e-visas, and family visit visas. However, Hajj, Umrah, diplomatic, and residency visas remain unaffected.
- Countries Impacted: The affected nations include Nigeria, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Sudan, Ethiopia, India, Tunisia, Yemen, Jordan, Iraq, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
- Implementation Timeline: Nationals holding valid Saudi visas may continue traveling to the Kingdom until April 13, 2025, but must exit no later than April 29, 2025. After this deadline, penalties such as a five-year entry ban may apply.
- Reason for Restrictions: Saudi authorities cited logistical challenges and overcrowding during the previous Hajj season as key reasons for the policy change. Many pilgrims reportedly entered the country using visas not designated for pilgrimage purposes, leading to safety concerns.
- Additional Measures: The issuance of Umrah visas will now begin annually on the 14th of Dhu Al Hijjah and conclude by the 1st of Shawwal. Pilgrims are required to leave by the 1st of Dhu Al Qa’dah.
This policy underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to ensuring a safer and more organized pilgrimage experience.
