Russian Agricultural Products To Be Banned In Poland

Poland is considering following Latvia’s lead in imposing a ban on agricultural imports from Russia and Belarus, Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated during a visit by his Latvian counterpart to Warsaw.

Tusk emphasized that while protests in Poland have largely focused on issues with Ukraine, imports from Russia and Belarus are also contributing to market distortions.

“We will analyze the case of Latvia, and I do not rule out that Poland will take an appropriate initiative,” Tusk remarked, highlighting the need for the European Union to reassess regulations governing imports of cereals and food products from Eastern countries.

Tusk intends to address concerns raised by protesting farmers later in the day, aiming to navigate the complexities of oversupply and unfair competition in agricultural trade. Collaborating with Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina, Tusk seeks to advocate for stricter measures on food imports at the European level.

Latvia’s recent decision to ban grain imports from Russia underscores growing efforts within the EU to address trade imbalances and support domestic agriculture.

In response, Poland is evaluating the potential implications of such actions and may pursue similar measures to safeguard its agricultural sector.
