Rishi Sunak has conceded defeat to Keir Starmer following the Tories’ crushing defeat in the General Election.

The Labour leader will become Prime Minister today after achieving a historic landslide.

At 4:45 a.m., Mr. Sunak conceded as he appeared on stage at his local count, and minutes later, Labour secured the 326 seats needed for a majority.

“The Labour Party has won this General Election and I have called Keir Starmer to congratulate him on his victory,” Mr Sunak said. “The British people have delivered a sobering verdict tonight. There is much to learn and reflect on and I take responsibility for the loss.”

He apologized to the hard-working Tory candidates who lost their seats. In a surprising victory, Labour captured Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket from a Tory majority of 22,085, and also overturned a 19,879 majority in Cannock Chase.

The Conservatives are headed for their worst result in history, with many MPs, including Cabinet ministers Penny Mordaunt, Grant Shapps, and Gillian Keegan, losing their seats.

Speaking at his count in Camden, Mr Starmer said: “Tonight, people here and around the country have spoken and they’re ready for change, to end the politics of performance, a return to politics as public service. The change begins right here… You have voted. It is now time for us to deliver.”

“I have to thank Vic and my family more than anyone for their love and support and for keeping me totally grounded,” he said.
