A 24-year-old Nigerian man named Oside Oluwole, also known as “Khoded,” has achieved a remarkable feat by setting a new world record for the longest videogame marathon playing a soccer game.

He played continuously for 75 hours, surpassing the previous record of 50 hours set by Englishman David Whitefoot in 2022.

Oside, who is a qualified biochemist and currently works as a car dealer, undertook this challenge to raise funds for a local hospital in his hometown of Ijebu Ode. Unlike previous record holders who played FIFA or Pro Evolution Soccer, Oside chose to play the mobile game Dream League Soccer 2023 on his iPhone, which he connected to a TV screen.

Throughout his marathon, Oside played over 500 matches of the soccer simulation game. According to the rules, he was allowed five minutes of rest time after each hour of gaming, during which he could eat, nap, or use the toilet.

Reflecting on his achievement, Oside expressed joy and satisfaction with the experience, stating, “I really enjoyed myself playing for 75 hours straight with just some hours of rest. It was such a great moment; the event was very interesting and I’m grateful to God that it was successful.”

Oside Oluwole, inspired by Chef Hilda Baci’s record-breaking cook-a-thon in Nigeria last year, undertook his marathon gaming challenge with the goal of setting new world records. His achievement in playing Dream League Soccer 2023 for 75 hours not only broke the previous record of 50 hours set by David Whitefoot but also set a new benchmark in the field of gaming marathons.

The record for the longest videogame marathon playing a soccer game was initially set in 2010 at 24 hours. Over the years, it was broken and extended, reaching 50 hours before Oside shattered it with his 75-hour feat. Previous record holders typically played games like FIFA or Pro Evolution Soccer, but Oside opted for Dream League Soccer 2023 on his iPhone, connected to a TV screen.

Looking ahead, Oside aims to continue setting records in the world of soccer videogames, possibly expanding into other popular titles like FIFA and PES on consoles. His dedication and success highlight his passion for gaming and his determination to push the boundaries of what’s possible in marathon gaming sessions.
