Residents of Beeston, Nottinghamshire, have been puzzled by the monthly appearance of peeled bananas on a plate at the corner of Abbey Road and Wensor Avenue.
This enigmatic ritual has been occurring for over a year, with the bananas usually appearing on the second day of each month.
The bananas, often arranged neatly on a plate and sometimes drizzled with honey, are placed opposite a local church. The purpose of this mysterious offering remains unclear, and theories abound among the residents.
Some speculate that it might be a religious offering, possibly tied to Hindu practices where bananas symbolize abundance and good fortune, and honey represents natural sweetness. Others believe it might be an attempt to feed wildlife, though the bananas are rarely touched by animals.
A sign recently appeared at the spot, requesting that the bananas no longer be left there due to the mess created by the uncollected plates and rotting bananas. Clare Short, a local litter-picker, put up the sign but later removed it to avoid creating tension.
Despite the confusion, the mystery continues to captivate the curiosity of locals, who eagerly await the next appearance of the bananas.
