Elon Musk’s scheduled interview with Republican candidate Donald Trump, whom he supports, faced significant delays on his platform X (formerly Twitter) due to technical difficulties.
Musk explained that X was hit by a “massive DDOS attack,” which prevented many users from accessing the livestream. As a result, the interview was delayed for over 40 minutes.
Musk assured users that they were “working on shutting it down” and mentioned that, in the worst-case scenario, the interview would proceed with a smaller number of live listeners, with the unedited audio posted later.
He later confirmed that they would move forward with fewer concurrent listeners at 8:30 PM ET and then share the full audio afterward.
Eventually, the technical issues were resolved, and the conversation became accessible. Initially, around 878,000 users were connected 40 minutes after the scheduled start, but they were met with messages like “Details not available” instead of the interview.
Trump’s team attributed the delays to the platform being “overwhelmed with listeners logging in.”
Musk noted that they had tested the system with 8 million concurrent listeners earlier in the day.
When the interview finally went live, just over a million users were able to tune in.
At one point, Trump congratulated Musk on attracting more than 60 million listeners to the Space, a statement that was followed by a long silence from Musk.
