In a remarkable incident in Baghpat, India, a group of monkeys reportedly saved a six-year-old girl from an attempted sexual assault, leaving the local community shocked and concerned.
The incident, which took place on Saturday, has prompted authorities to launch a manhunt for the suspect.
According to a report from the Times of India, the girl, a UKG student, was lured to an abandoned house by an unidentified man. As the assailant attempted to harm her, a group of monkeys suddenly charged at him, forcing him to flee and leaving the child unharmed.
The girl’s father explained the situation to authorities, stating, “CCTV footage shows the man walking down a narrow lane with my daughter. He threatened her, saying he would kill me. If the monkeys hadn’t intervened, she might not have survived.”
The child later told her family how the monkeys had come to her aid, adding an extraordinary twist to the case.
Baghpat Circle Officer Harish Bhadoria confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
“We are investigating the incident involving the monkeys and working to identify the suspect,” Bhadoria said, noting that additional charges may be brought as the case unfolds.
Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and conducting investigations to apprehend the suspect, who remains at large.
The victim’s identity is being protected in accordance with Supreme Court regulations on sexual assault.
