The Kremlin has denied reports that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin, urging him to avoid escalating the war in Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the reports “pure fiction,” stating that Putin has no plans to speak with Trump at the moment.
Peskov criticized the quality of the information being published, highlighting that even reputable publications sometimes spread false information.
When asked about potential future contacts between Putin and Trump, Peskov replied that there are no concrete plans yet.
The Washington Post had reported that Trump held the call from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, just days after his election victory over Kamala Harris.
The report claimed that Trump reminded Putin of the significant U.S. military presence in Europe and expressed an interest in resolving the Ukraine conflict soon. Reuters also reported the call, citing anonymous sources.
However, Trump’s communications director, Steven Cheung, did not confirm the conversation, stating, “We do not comment on private calls between President Trump and other world leaders.”
