Kemi Badenoch has become the new leader of the UK’s Conservative Party, winning against Robert Jenrick with a strong majority—53,806 votes to Jenrick’s 41,000.
Following a four-month race, Badenoch takes over as the Conservatives seek to rebuild after a disappointing July election, in which they lost numerous seats.
Her campaign has focused on issues like immigration, the economy, and party unity.
As the party’s new head, she is tasked with regaining public trust and addressing the challenges discussed throughout the campaign.
After the close of polls on Thursday, Ms Badenoch described the party as a “family” and said that it is “much more to me than a membership organisation”, while Mr Jenrick also called for the Conservatives to “move past the drama” of recent years and “unite”.
