Former United States President Donald Trump has been found guilty in a landmark criminal hush-money trial, a decision that could significantly impact the 2024 election campaign.
He is the first US president, past or present, to be charged and convicted of a crime.
A New York City jury delivered the verdict on Thursday afternoon after a seven-week trial, finding Trump guilty on all 34 counts he faced.
Prosecutors presented nearly two dozen witnesses, and after closing arguments on Tuesday, the jury took two days to reach a verdict.
Trump faced 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to a hush-money payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 US presidential election.
Prosecutors argued that Trump tried to conceal the payment to boost his chances in the election, which he eventually won.
The former Republican president, who is expected to run against Democratic incumbent Joe Biden in the November election, had pleaded not guilty. He now faces a prison sentence of up to four years for each felony count.
However, court observers believe it is unlikely he will serve time in prison and may instead receive probation or community service.
