Israel claims elimination of another Hezbollah Leader

Israel’s military has announced the death of Hashem Safieddine, a prominent Hezbollah leader and successor to the group’s chief, Hassan Nasrallah, following a targeted airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburbs three weeks ago.

The strike, which took place on 27 September, also killed Ali Hussein Hazima, Hezbollah’s Intelligence Directorate head, among other commanders. The attack targeted Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters in Dahiyeh, a southern Beirut suburb.

A statement released by Israeli Forces read “It can now be confirmed that in an attack approximately three weeks ago, Hashem Safieddine and other senior Hezbollah commanders were killed.”

Hezbollah has not officially confirmed the deaths of its key leaders, Hashem Safieddine and Ali Hussein Hazima, following Israeli claims that they were killed in an airstrike on Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters in southern Beirut.

Safieddine was considered the likely successor to Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah’s current leader.

The strikes are part of Israel’s broader offensive against Hezbollah, which intensified in late September 2023 amid a broader regional conflict.

Israeli forces have launched multiple airstrikes targeting Hezbollah positions in Beirut and southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah continues retaliatory rocket fire.
