Kenya’s Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been hospitalized, as revealed by his lawyer, Paul Muite, on Thursday, just before Gachagua was set to testify in his impeachment trial at the Senate.
Due to his illness, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi postponed the hearing until 5:00 pm when Gachagua is expected to appear.
The Senate trial, which began on Wednesday, follows a National Assembly vote to impeach Gachagua on 11 charges, including corruption, undermining the government, and promoting ethnically divisive politics.
