‘Illegal Activity’ – Trump says Google only posts bad news about him

Donald Trump

Former U.S President Donald Trump, on Friday, accused Google of deliberately showing only negative stories about him, while promoting positive content about his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris.

Trump made the claim on his Truth Social platform without providing any evidence to support his accusation. He further stated that if re-elected, he would push for the tech giant’s prosecution, accusing it of interfering with elections.

In his post, Trump labeled Google’s alleged actions as “ILLEGAL ACTIVITY” and called on the Justice Department to pursue criminal charges. He added that if the department does not take action, he will seek to prosecute the company “at the maximum levels” upon winning the 2024 presidential election.

Google responded to inquiries by stating that both Trump and Harris’ campaign websites consistently rank at the top of search results for relevant queries.

The company emphasized that the accusations were based on an isolated search from weeks prior and reiterated that it does not manipulate search results to favor any political candidate.

While Google does not reveal the full mechanics behind its search algorithm, it is known that factors like the timeliness and popularity of stories can influence the results displayed.

Trump’s remarks come amid his involvement in several high-profile legal cases, including allegations of sexual misconduct, election interference, and efforts to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power following his 2020 electoral defeat to President Joe Biden.
