Hezbollah announced on Friday that it is entering a more intense phase of conflict with Israel, following the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.
Sinwar, responsible for the October 7 attack that escalated the Gaza war, was killed by Israeli forces on Wednesday.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu confirmed the event, stating it was a critical moment in the war but not the end, vowing continued efforts to rescue hostages.
In a recorded video statement following the confirmation of the death on Thursday, Netanyahu remarked, “Today we have settled the score. Today evil has been dealt a blow but our task has still not been completed.
“To the dear hostage families, I say: This is an important moment in the war. We will continue full force until all your loved ones, our loved ones, are home.”
Meanwhile, U.S. President Joe Biden sees Sinwar’s death as a potential opening for a ceasefire and hostage negotiations.
