Harris bags Taylor Swift endorsement

Global superstar Taylor Swift has officially endorsed Kamala Harris for President of the United States.

Breaking her silence on the 2024 election, Swift expressed her support for Harris, calling her a “steady-handed, gifted leader” in an Instagram post on Tuesday.

The announcement followed the first televised presidential debate, which the singer said she watched closely.

“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” Swift shared. She praised Harris for fighting for causes she holds dear and for providing calm leadership in a chaotic political climate.

“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” Swift wrote. “I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader, and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”

In a playful sign-off, Swift referred to herself as a “childless cat lady,” taking a jab at comments made by Republican VP candidate JD Vance, who had used the term to insult Democratic women.

Swift had remained relatively quiet on the 2024 race, despite many fans organizing under the banner “Swifties for Kamala” and raising over $150,000 for Harris’s campaign.

However, Swift explained that AI-generated images falsely depicting her as a Trump supporter motivated her to clarify her political stance.

“It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter,” she said. “The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”

Swift encouraged her fans to research candidates themselves, though she stopped short of telling them to vote for Harris directly, stating, “I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make.”

Alongside her endorsement, Swift shared a voter registration link with her followers, further promoting civic engagement.

She also highlighted Harris’s running mate, Tim Walz, for his longstanding support of LGBTQ+ rights, IVF access, and women’s reproductive rights.

The Harris campaign has been quick to embrace support from the entertainment world, which typically leans left. While Beyonce hasn’t officially endorsed Harris, her song “Freedom” has been featured in campaign ads.

Additionally, British artist Charli XCX’s album “brat” has become a core part of Harris’s online campaign strategy, as Democrats work to stay connected to the pulse of social media.
