H5N1 Bird Flu on the rise, Colorado confirms Four Cases

Colorado health authorities announced on Sunday that four confirmed cases of H5N1 bird flu have been reported among poultry workers, with a fifth suspected case currently under investigation.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed the four cases and is assisting with further investigation.

The state’s public health department reported that the fifth worker’s samples tested presumptively positive at the state laboratory and have been sent to the CDC for confirmation.

While the infected workers exhibited mild symptoms such as conjunctivitis and respiratory issues, none required hospitalization.

The CDC has cautioned that human infections with H5N1 avian flu could result in severe illness and potentially a pandemic if the virus mutates to spread easily between people.
