G7 leaders recently convened to discuss the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
This meeting took place in Fiuggi, Italy, and was attended by foreign ministers from the G7 nations, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, and Italy.
The ICC issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu, former Israeli defense minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas military leader Mohammed Deif, citing alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity related to the Gaza conflict. The G7 ministers aimed to reach a unified stance on the ICC’s decision, which has sparked varied reactions globally.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani expressed optimism about finding common ground among the G7 nations, despite the complexities involved. The discussions also touched on broader Middle East tensions, including efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Lebanon.
