Two 13-year-old French Boys have been charged with the rape of a 12-year-old Jewish girl.
The act sparked nationwide outrage in France.
According to police sources, a girl said that while she was at a park near her home in the northwestern Paris suburb of Courbevoie on Saturday evening, three boys aged 12 to 13 approached her.
The boys dragged her into a shed, where they beat her and forced her into sex while making death threats and anti-Semitic remarks, as reported by one police source to AFP.
The girl mentioned that she was called a “dirty Jew,” according to another police source.
One of the boys questioned her about “her Jewish faith” and Israel, as noted in her statement to investigators, the source added.
The rape act was filmed by one boy and another threatened to kill the girl if she told authorities about her ordeal, police sources said.
Meanwhile, demonstrators including Justice Minister Eric Dupond-Moretti and other well-known figures flocked central Paris to protest against the act.
“Raped at 12 because she was Jewish”, said one banner.
During a cabinet meeting, Macron told government ministers that the “scourge of anti-Semitism” was endangering French schools, according to a source close to the president.
The source mentioned that the president urged for “dialogue” on racism and anti-Semitism in schools to stop “hate speech with serious consequences” from “entering” classrooms.
Of the 1,676 anti-Semitic acts recorded in 2023, 12.7 percent took place in schools.
