Marian Robinson, mother of Michelle Obama, former First Lady of the United States of America is dead.
She gave up the ghost on Friday at 86.
Michelle, who paid tribute to her mother described her as the steady backstop of the family.
“My mom Marian Robinson was my rock, always there for whatever I needed. She was the same steady backstop for our entire family, and we are heartbroken to share she passed away today,” she tweeted.
In a statement released by the family, the deceased was encouraging towards their daughter, Michelle, who “married a guy crazy enough to go into politics”.
“At every step, as our families went down paths none of us could have predicted, she remained our refuge from the storm, keeping our feet on solid ground.
“On Election Night in 2008, when the news broke that Barack would soon shoulder the weight of the world, she was there, holding his hand,” the family said.
Born and raised in the South Side of Chicago as Marian Lois Shields, she married Fraiser Robinson in 1960 and the couple had two children, a son Craig in 1962 and a daughter Michelle in 1964.
