Torrential rains and flooding in Niger over three weeks have resulted in 21 deaths and impacted nearly 6,000 people, according to figures released Thursday by the interior ministry.
Eight people had drowned and 13 had died in houses that collapsed in storms, the report stated.
It was further confirmed that another 26 people have been injured and around 4,000 cattle have been killed or lost.
Officials reported that the Maradi region in central Niger has been the hardest hit by the start of the rainy season, with 14 of the 21 deaths occurring there.
