The descendants of Gustave Eiffel, the designer of the Eiffel Tower, are challenging plans to keep the Olympic rings on the tower.
Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo wants to retain the rings, which were added for the Paris Olympics, until at least 2028, when the Games will next be held in Los Angeles.
The Eiffel family opposes this plan, arguing that the rings, which are large and colorful, disrupt the tower’s iconic design and compromise its aesthetic integrity.
They have consulted lawyers to prevent the alteration, emphasizing that it conflicts with the tower’s historical and symbolic significance.
The Eiffel Tower, completed in 1889, was originally intended as a temporary structure. It is now a global symbol of Paris and France, attracting around seven million visitors annually.
The descendants propose that the rings be removed after the 2024 Olympic year to preserve the tower’s original form.
