In a recent press statement made by a pentagon Spokesperson, the defense secretary of the United States of America Lloyd J. Austin III, has been hospitalized again, this time “for symptoms suggesting an emergent bladder issue”. And as a result of this he has transferred all functions and duties to the office of the Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks as at 4:45pm on Sunday.
According to Walter Reed Hospital, Lloyd was rushed down to the hospital at 2:20pm. His Doctors at the Walter Reed Hospital – Dr. John Maddox and Dr. Gregory Chesnut stated that he has been admitted into the critical care unit.
In their statement they said “Earlier today, Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III was transported by his security detail to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to be seen for symptoms suggesting an emergent bladder issue. Tonight, after a series of tests and evaluations, the Secretary was admitted into the critical care unit at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for supportive care and close monitoring.”
They concluded their statement by saying that “At this time, it is not clear how long Secretary Austin will remain hospitalized. The current bladder issue is not expected to change his anticipated full recovery. His cancer prognosis remains excellent. Updates on the Secretary’s condition will be provided as soon as possible.”
It can be recalled that Lloyd Austin was hospitalized late last year when he underwent a minimally invasive surgical procedure for prostate cancer on December 22 2023. The surgery led to a urinary tract infection and some serious intestinal complications which later led to his hospitalization on January 1, 2024.
However, in an unexpected turn of events it turned out that the White House as well as President Joe Biden were not aware of all of these up until 3 days after his hospitalization. This led to him getting a public reprimand from president Joe Biden as well as angry reactions from the republican in general about the suspicious way in which he handled his health conditions.
Addressing this issue of how he badly handled the situation, Austin Lloyd earlier this month made a press conference in which he addressed both the white house and all the citizens of the United States of America. He said “I should have told the president about my cancer diagnosis, and should also have told my team and the American public.” I take full responsibility. I apologize to my teammates and to the American people.”
Also talking about how his current health condition affected him personally, he said “The news shook me, as I know that it shakes so many others, especially in the Black community. It was a gut punch, and frankly, my first instinct was to keep it private. I don’t think it’s news that I’m a pretty private guy. I never like burdening others with my problems. It’s just not my way.”
Austin Lloyd also made it known that he has directly apologized to President Joe Biden and he expressed how deeply sorry he was for how he handled things.
However, this time around things were handled correctly as the White House, the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff and Congress have been notified.
All dignitaries in positions of power as well as the American citizens are all praying for the speedy recovery of the Defence Secretary.
