Cultural Treasures reclaimed by Peru from US and European countries

The repatriation of 4,600 culturally significant items, including textiles, ceramics, and clothing, back to Peru from various countries, such as the United States, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland has been announced by Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It was said that the joint efforts of Peru’s Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, local authorities, consulates, and embassies ensured the return of these items to their country of origin.

4,556 of the repatriated artefacts belonged to the collection of the late American archaeologist and anthropologist John Rowe.

Portugal returned a silver incense burner dating back to the 18th or 19th century.

Other archaeological items were voluntarily returned from Germany and the Netherlands with Swiss authorities repatriating four pre-Hispanic ceramic pieces.

33 items, including clothing and ceramics from cultures such as Nazca, Wari, Inca, Paracas, and Chimú were returned by Italy.
