Senator Sherrod Brown, the Chairman of the United States Senate Banking Committee, has asked President Joe Biden to ban Chinese made electric cars imports to the US.
Since the White House announced in February that the US would commence an investigation into whether Chinese automobiles pose a national security threat, citing concerns that these internet-connected vehicles could potentially record detailed information on US infrastructure through their cameras and sensors, which could be remotely controlled or disabled.
Brown insisted that Chinese electric vehicles pose a threat to the US auto sector, despite other politicians calling for high tariffs to prevent them from entering the nation. He stated “We cannot allow China to bring its government-backed cheating to the American auto industry.”
Brown who is a Democrat from the car-producing state of Ohio is running for a fourth term in office in the November election.
