Airline to Weigh Passengers AND Baggages to calculate ‘flight balance’

FINNAIR

The leading airline in Finland has said that it will weigh both passengers and their bags.

According to Finnair, the optional change is intended to improve balancing calculations, which will raise the standard of flight safety, and will be implemented until May.

According to a corporate statement, “Finnair will gather data by weighing volunteering customers and their carry-on baggage at the departure gate.”

“The weighing is voluntary and anonymous, and the data will only be used to optimize Finnair’s current aircraft balance calculations.”

Weighing people, according to Finnair, will assist make sure the airline doesn’t carry more weight than the aircraft is designed to carry before takeoff.

The business has promised not to use passengers’ personal information.

“We use the weighing data for the average calculations required for the safe operation of flights, and the collected data is not linked in any way to the customer’s personal data,” Satu Munnukka, head of Finnair’s ground processes, said in a statement.
