Over the weekend, a series of shootings occurred across Chicago, resulting in injuries to five individuals. These incidents, categorized as weekend shootings by CBS Chicago, took place between 5 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday.
The wounded victims, aged between 19 and 29, were involved in separate incidents across different locations in the city.
One of the shootings occurred on Friday evening at around 7:20 p.m., when a 21-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the foot.
He was later taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition, although specific details about the incident remain unclear. Another shooting took place later that evening at approximately 10:47 p.m. in the 2500 block of South Trumbull, where a 23-year-old man was shot in the chest while standing outside. He was listed in good condition at Mount Sinai Hospital.
On Saturday, additional shootings were reported throughout the day. At 6:13 p.m. in the 11400 block of South Morgan, a 29-year-old man was shot in the neck and transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition.
Meanwhile, in the 1400 block of South Ashland at the same time, a 19-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach and was initially listed in critical condition at Stroger Hospital.
Tragically, one of the victims, identified as 19-year-old Damian Gomez by the Medical Examiner’s Office, succumbed to his injuries. He was shot in the chest and shoulder during an argument with another man in the 1900 block of West Hastings. Despite being taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, Gomez later passed away.
Additionally, at 12:20 a.m. in the 100 block of East 118th Place, a 19-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man were shot inside a residence by a known male offender. The woman was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition, while the man was transported to Christ Hospital in good condition.
