Wike gives condition for peace in Rivers

Nyesom Wike, Minister of FCT

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has outlined the conditions for restoring peace in Rivers State, which he says is up to Governor Sim Fubara.

The two have been at odds since Fubara assumed office in 2023, despite attempts by President Bola Tinubu to mediate the situation.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Wike emphasized that the key to peace lies in Fubara’s commitment to obeying the rule of law. He clarified that no one is fighting the governor, drawing a comparison to his own experience of disagreements with the federal government during his tenure as Rivers State governor.

Wike stated, “There will be peace when Fubara obeys the rule of law, and Wike too will obey court judgments. If you don’t obey court judgments and the rule of law, you are bringing anarchy. Subject yourself to the rule of law and not the rule of power.”
