Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its handling of subsidy removal reforms.
In an interview with News Central TV on Wednesday, Obi stated that if given the chance, the government would even remove subsidies on air and charge Nigerians for it.
“I’ve said it before: we need to know what is being removed and where it is being applied. Right now, no one knows the current status of the subsidy,” Obi remarked.
“They’ve removed petrol and electricity subsidies. Soon, they’ll remove the air subsidy. If they could, they would charge us for air. We’re not against reforms, but we need transparency on where the money is going.”
It should be recalled that the Tinubu administration announced the removal of fuel subsidies in May 2023, leading to a nationwide hike in petrol prices.
