The Presidency has clarified that there is no leadership vacuum in Nigeria during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima’s absence abroad.
According to a statement by Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga, the Senate President, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume, and ministers are in charge, ensuring the smooth functioning of the government.
The statement recalled similar situations under the Buhari administration and emphasized that state organs continue to operate without disruption.
“We had a similar situation in 2022 when former President Buhari and former Vice President Osinbajo were found to be simultaneously out of the country. President Buhari attended UNGA 77, while Osinbajo participated in the burial of Queen Elizabeth II,” the statement read.
Vice President Kashim Shettima yesterday embarked on a trip to Sweden while President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had departed for the UK since October 2, 2024.
However, it was later reported that President Bola Tinubu has left the United Kingdom for Paris, France, for what has been described as an “important engagement.”
