The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced plans to set up hotlines for journalists covering the November 16 Ondo State governorship election, allowing them to confirm information before reporting.

During a workshop in Akure, Amosa Lamidi, INEC’s Head of Electoral Operations, shared that a dedicated situation room would also be in place to handle media inquiries.

Sam Olumekun, Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, who was represented by the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), in the state, Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola encouraged journalists to maintain accountability and combat voter apathy and misinformation.

“We must unite to overcome challenges such as apathy, misinformation, and logistical barriers that may prevent citizens from collecting their PVCs.

“With your collaboration, we can tackle these challenges directly and ensure that every eligible voter in Ondo State is ready to make their voice heard on Election Day.”
