‘Nigerians believe in Us’ – Tinubu hails Edo Guber outcome

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, for his victory in the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday, September 21, 2024.

Okpebholo was officially declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday.

In a statement by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu commended the efforts of APC leaders at both the national and state levels, as well as the governors of the party, for their hard work in securing the victory.

He emphasized that the win reflects the people’s support for the APC’s progressive vision, economic reforms, and commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians.

The President urged Senator Okpebholo to approach his victory with humility, calling it a “challenging call to service,” and advised him to reach out to his political opponents in the spirit of unity to promote Edo State’s development.

He also praised other candidates for contributing to Nigeria’s democratic progress and encouraged those dissatisfied with the election results to seek resolution through legal avenues.

Tinubu further applauded the citizens of Edo State for their orderly participation, emphasizing that peaceful elections demonstrate the stability of Nigeria’s democracy, which has matured significantly over the past 25 years.

He also acknowledged INEC and security agencies for their dedication in conducting a successful and largely hitch-free election, reinforcing the commission’s commitment to free and fair elections in the country.

In a similar development, Senate President Godswill Akpabio attributed the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the Edo State governorship election to the confidence Nigerians have in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
