LP urges EFCC, NSA to probe Peter Obi, Yesufu

The National Working Committee of the Labour Party (LP) has called on the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate Aisha Yesufu, Pastor Itua Ighodalo, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Afenifere leaders over allegations of misappropriating funds from the 2023 presidential campaign.

Speaking at a press conference in Abeokuta on Wednesday, Abayomi Arabambi, the LP’s National Publicity Secretary, expressed concern over accusations involving the diversion of over ₦12 billion and $15 million in campaign donations.

He pointed to recent comments by Yesufu, who had denied involvement in any financial misconduct.

Yesufu responded to the accusations in a viral video, criticizing the LP’s chairman, Julius Abure, for his statements. She claimed that Abure had misrepresented the situation, particularly regarding the ‘Labour Party N1,000 Challenge’ donations, and stated that proper processes had been followed during fundraising.

Arabambi dismissed Yesufu’s defense as a cover-up and accused her of collaborating with Peter Obi and other individuals, including Afenifere leaders Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Akin Osuntokun, and Sola Ebiseni, to mismanage campaign funds.

According to Arabambi, these leaders allegedly kept ₦600 million in private accounts linked to Afenifere.

Meanwhile, Dr. Yunisa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obedient Movement, refuted the allegations, calling them baseless. He emphasized that an audited account of the campaign funds had been provided, and no money was missing from the LP’s accounts.
