Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has addressed rumors about his potential governorship ambitions.
During a recent session where Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu presented the 2025 budget, Obasa clarified that he has not seriously considered running for governor, despite ongoing speculation.
Obasa emphasized that his primary focus is on strengthening the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos. He noted that political detractors have misconstrued his efforts to mobilize support for the party as a selfish pursuit of the governorship.
He stated, “Becoming governor is secondary; it is something that I have not given serious consideration. Nevertheless, that does not mean I am too young or lack experience to run; whereas, those who have been before me are not better of.”
Obasa also addressed rumors suggesting he sought validation from his blood relations in Ojo to support his alleged candidacy. He clarified that while he is related to the Obasa family in Ojo, he has never claimed any connection to prominent Lagos families like the Onikoyi or Oniru.
He reiterated that if he decides to run, he will do so from Agege, without needing local validation.
