The Labour Party (LP) National Conference in Anambra on Wednesday was rejected by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Mr Rotimi Oyelami, the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, confirmed that INEC did not oversee the conference conducted.
The LP National Legal Adviser had stated that the party informed INEC on the change of location, time and venue for the convention as it will be taking place in Anambra, Nnewi and not Umuahia in Abia State as stated earlier even though Benin was the previous choice before the location changed to Nnewi.
Political parties are required to give INEC at least 21 days’ notice of any convention, congress, conference, or gathering, according to Section 82(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022.
This involves the convention or meeting called with the intention of joining nominees chosen for its executive committees and other governing bodies, and electing members of those organizations.
