ICYMI: MC Oluomo elected NURTW National President

Musiliu 'MC Oluomo' Akinsanya

Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo, has been elected as the national president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

The election took place at the union’s zonal secretariat along the Osogbo/Ikirun road in Osun state, with delegates from Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti participating.

The election was part of the union’s quadrennial delegate conference and was monitored by Aliyu Issa-Ore, the acting national president.

Issa-Ore explained that the union’s constitution allows the zone filling the national president’s position to elect its preferred candidate and present them to the national body.

Adedamola Salam, head of finance at the national headquarters in Abuja, represented the acting NURTW president and confirmed that the south-west zone complied with the constitution in electing Oluomo as president. Tajudeen Agbede was elected as vice-president, south-west, and Akeem Adeosun as trustee from the zone.

After taking the oath of office, Akinsanya emphasized the importance of members’ commitment to preserving the union.

“I have forgiven everyone who has offended me, and I hope those I have offended will forgive me as well,” he said.

“This is our union, and we must be committed to preserving it. We will not allow anyone to destroy our means of livelihood.”
